The top-seeded doubles teams of Bob and Mike Bryan and Samantha Stosur and Lisa Raymond claimed convincing wins Wednesday.
World No. 1 team Bob and Mike Bryan won five of six 'sudden death' points en route to defeating San Jose semifinalists Jaroslav Levinsky and Robert Lindstedt 6-3, 6-2.
The brothers were playing their first tournament match since winning their second consecutive Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
Mike Bryan said: "We played clutch on the 3-all points. We came out and played a great match."
Raymond and Stosur reached the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Varvara Lepchenko and Tatiana Panova. Raymond and Stosur, the No. 1 ranked doubles player in the world, are riding a 12-match winning streak dating back to their victory at last month's Australian Open.
Earlier this month they also won the Tokyo title. They are 14-1 this sason.
