Frazier Breezes into Second Round

Seventh seed Amy Frazier cruised into the second round of the Cellular South Cup Monday with a 6-2, 6-1 win over fellow American Meilen Tu.

Playing her first match since a first-round loss at the Australian Open in mid January, Frazier said she was happy with her performance.

Frazier said: "I felt great today. I returned well and hit my groundstrokes well. Although I don't think two and one was indicative of how the match went. Meilen didn't play as well as she normally does. She normally doesn't miss that much. I'm not looking too far ahead this week - I don't even know who I play in the next round."

Frazier improved to 3-3 on the season and is now one win away from reaching her second quarterfinal of the season (Hobart).

Lisa Raymond, the Memphis champion of 2002 and 2003, enjoyed a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win over Lina Stanciute in the feature night match.

In other early action Monday, American Shenay Perry claimed her first main draw match victory of the year when she defeated Russian Ekaterina Bychkova 6-3, 7-6(2).

Russian Yaroslava Shedova blitzed American Jamea Jackson 6-3, 6-1.
