Gimelstob Qualifies for Main Draw

American veteran Justin Gimelstob won his final round qualifying match Sunday to advance to the main draw of the men's singles. Gimelstob, who also won through qualifying in San Jose last week, defeated John Paul Fruttero 6-7(6), 6-0, 6-3.

Gimelstob fired 13 aces and won 81 percent of points on his first serve.

Gimelstob's best showings in ATP main draws this year have come in Chennai and Delray Beach, where he reached the second round.

Chile's Paul Capdeville rifled two powerful backhands down the line to break Australian Peter Luczak in the final game of the match to win 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-5 and advance to the main draw.

Frenchman Julien Benneteau rallied from 3-5 in the third set to defeat South African Rik de Voest 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

Denmark's Kristian Pless was the last player to qualify for the main draw after defeating Canadian Frederic Nieymeyer.

In women's qualifying action, American Carly Gullickson fell in the final round of qualifying to Russian Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-2.

China's Meng Yuan, Lithuania's Lina Stanciute and American Angela Haynes also qualified for the main draw.
