Men's Quarterfinal Action, Women's Semifinals Set


A Plenty of action awaits the fans at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the Cellular South Cup with all men's quarterfinals and Women's Semifinals.

In the ?marquee? match of the day, No. 1 seed Andy Roddick will take a 3-0 lead over Robby Ginepri for a spot in the semifinals. In their last match in Indianapolis' quarterfinals, Roddick won 7-6(5), 6-4. Both players come into the quarterfinals without dropping a set. Roddick come off strong performances at the Australian Open (l. to Hewitt in semifinals) and his first title of 2005 at San Jose (d. Saulnier).

In another excitement-promising match, Jan Michael Gambill will try to take the lead in the series against Denmark's Kenneth Carlsen. Both players have won in one occasion, the last one in the second round of San Jose '02, which Gambill won 7-6(8), 6-2.

Delray Beach winner Xavier Malisse will play xx for a spot in the semifinals. He is 9-4 for the year and looks to build on his career first ATP title to break into the top 20 this year.

On the women's side, in a highly anticipated semifinal match, No. 7 seed Nicole Vaidisova will take a 1-0 lead over No. 3 seed Meghan Shaugnessy for a spot in Saturday's final. Their only encounter came in the semifinals of Tashkent last year, where the 15-year-old Czech won 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(1). Tashkent was one of two Sony Ericsson WTA Tour titles won by Vaidisova last year.

The other semifinal will feature an All-Russian battle between No. 8 seed Evgenia Linetskaya and No. 1 seed Vera Zvonareva. Both player come into the semifinals without losing a set in their previous three matches.
