Third seed Amanda Coetzer came back from the brink of defeat to overcome Germany's Angelika Roesch and progress to the second round of the Kroger St. Jude Cellular South Cup in Memphis.

Coetzer, who suffered a shock defeat in the first round 12 months ago, found herself a set and a break down before coming back to win 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-1. She now meets Sarah Taylor for a place in the quarterfinals.

"It was a bit of déjà vu of my match from last year," said Coetzer. "I came out and didn't really find my rhythm, but luckily I got another chance in the second set and somehow pulled it out. I'm just really happy to get a win."
