Roddick: "Now my feet are in the tournament."

Roddick Completes Comeback

Andy Roddick showed just why he is fast becoming one of the hottest properties in men's tennis after completing a remarkable comeback against Andre Sa to reach the quarterfinals of the Kroger St. Jude in Memphis.

After trailing by a set and 4-0, the second seed won six games in a row to level matters before taking the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 to book a quarterfinal clash with Sargis Sargsian.

"I never gave up," said Roddick. "A year ago I might have thrown my toys around, but I knew I had to make him work for it. The crowd never gave up on me, and I wasn't going to give up on them."

Learning

Roddick, who lost to Tommy Haas at the quarterfinal stage last year after losing his cool mid-way through the match, acknowledged that things are a little different for him these days.

"You learn a lot in a year," said Roddick. "This year I'm always having fun on the court regardless of what's going on. Last year it was much more of a panic emotion."

Looking ahead to the rest of the tournament, the 19-year-old said: "Now my feet are in the tournament. Today I really had to work hard, and I feel I'm getting more match tough after a game like that."

Third seed Jan-Michael Gambill also had to recover from a set down to defeat fellow American Paul Goldstein 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. "I lost my serve early in the match and couldn't get back on terms," said Gambill. "But once I got the break in the second, I took control. I was ripping my serve and my forehands and it's a pretty good feeling knowing I played two awesome sets."

Gambill now goes on to meet fifth seed Rainer Schuettler, who had little trouble disposing of American qualifier Jeff Morrison.
